Berkeley Waterfront Community Coalition is reminding everyone that the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for the WETA ferry project is out for public comment. This project seeks to replace the 3000' pier with a 500' ferry terminal for a commuter ferry with weekend service and a potential pier extension of 500' recreation. The DEIR is intended to address physical environmental effects and rank them from no to significant impact. For the report prepared by its consulting firm, City Council will then have authority to approve, approve with mitigating measures, reject as inadequate, or override any significant impacts in the DEIR as secondary to other economic and social factors. Local concerns include: misleading representation of current planned baseline (e.g. leasing of HsLordships, pending opening of new docks), misrepresentation of reasonable alternatives, and omission of environmental data. See https://berkeleyca.gov/your-government/our-work/capital-projects/berkeley-pier-ferry-access-project for all DEIR documents. Please review and consider sending public comment. Comments may be submitted by mail or email by 5:00 p.m. on April 28, 2026 to the address listed on the city website.
