Emergency Information from our City Manager

Thanks again to City Manager Paul Buddenhagen for spending time with us on Feb 8th. Here is some follow up information:

  • Community members can request disaster preparedness presentations in their neighborhoods by emailing oes@berkeleyca.gov OES or submitting our request form, which is available at BerkeleyCa.gov/CERT under "Other training opportunities"
  • For community members who prefer an online option, we have our Six Critical Steps to Disaster Preparedness class (virtual) -- Link to Register March 12 at 7pm
  • We have also created a lot of resources about household readiness steps for each hazard. You can find:
  • We have a Hazard map webpage with detailed, interactive maps for different hazards like fire, earthquake and flooding.
  • We also have a series of Hazard videos that walk through the steps that community members can take in their own lives to be ready for each hazard.

Emergency Alerting Systems
  • We want to be able to reach community members with information and instructions if there is an emergency that could harm them.
  • Everyone should sign up for AC Alert, which is a Countywide mass notification system, to get emergency alerts from Berkeley officials. By signing up you can help us reach you on your mobile phone and email.
  • We also recommend people who use smart phones download the Genasys Protect App. This system is the first place emergency responders will update if we have to do a large-scale evacuation. By signing up for the app, you can get immediately notified if an area you care about has an evacuation order or other emergency.
