Class I Completely separated path or trail with no motorized vehicles or motorized bicycles    
Class IIStriped preferential lanes on roadwaysUpgraded Class II bicycle lanes add separation and my use thermoplastic striping to increase visibility   
Class IIISigned roadways and travel lanes with stenciling where people riding bikes share a travel lane with vehicles (sharrows)Bicycle Boulevards are roadways where bicycles share traffic lanes with vehicles, however, traffic calming and diversion infrastructure has been added to prioritize bicycle travel and discourage or slow vehicle travel   
Class IVBikeways also known as cycle tracks are on-street bicycle lanes that are separated from vehicles with curbs, bollards or a parking aisle
